3rd Intl Conference on Business and Economics held at DU

The 3rd International Conference on Business and Economics held in the University of Dhaka on October 09- 10 with “Shaping the Future Through Inclusive Development" as the theme.

Organized by the Faculty of Business Studies (FBS) of DU at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, the conference was participated by researchers and academicians from the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, India and Bangladesh.

Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Vice Chancellor (VC), DU was present as the chief guest on the inaugural session while Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam, Dean, FBS, DU was in the chair. Professor Mr. Partha S. Ghosh from Tufts University, USA delivered the keynote speech.

Prof. Dr. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza, VC, United States International University, Kenya and Professor Dr. Ghaleb A. El Refae, VC, Al Ain University of Science and Technology, UAE spoke as special guests. Around 400 participants including 75 academics and researchers from eight countries participated the inaugural session.

Prof. Akhtaruzzaman, in his inaugural speech, said, “Despite of significant and consistent advancement across the globe, we are still observing a rise of inequality in the society. Mentioning about the Oxfam’s recent findings that shows 82% of the entire global wealth created last year went to the richest, who represent only 1% (one percent) of the society, professor Akhtaruzzaman said, for building a just, equal and innovative society, we must address this problem and collectively come up with new initiatives, efforts and ideas.

Prof. Partha S. Ghosh, in his keynote speech, titled “Nurturing an Innovative Society for all round inclusive development: Towards Capitalism 2.0” spoke about macro and micro economics challenges in the future. He presented a model to build an Innovative and Enterprising Society.

Prof. Dr. Ghaleb A. El Refae from UAE and Dr. Paul Tiyambe Zeleza spoke about “Risk Management in Higher Education Institutions” and “Growth and Inclusive Development: Lessons from Africa” respectively.

Prof. Dr. Atiur Rahman, Former Governor, Bangladesh Bank, was the moderator of the Roundtable Discussion held at FBS building. Mr. M. A. Mannan, State Minister, Ministry of Finance and Planning, Government of People`s Republic of Bangladesh was present as the chief guest there.
